Fashion Design Skills are fun to learn!!

There are 4 major skill areas for a designer to achieve their goals 1. Is the creative design from the imagination 2. Is the skill to accurately represent the design that is in your head 3. Is the skill to draft a pattern to accurate measurements and develop the design lines for your creative design 4. Is the skills to layout the pattern, cut the toile (practice) and make a sample to test the fit.

When you have a drawing, a pattern and a sample you can develop the final garment either as a one off made to measure or as a standard larger scale run. 1 CREATIVE DESIGN You will learn to create mood boards and gain inspiration for your designs from the outer world shapes so you will never have to copy !! Stimulating the imagination is a vital part of being a designer Daydreaming is good !1

2.FIGURE DRAWING A designer needs to be able to express their ideas visually and in this field you will learn progressively to master the technical skills of drawing the human figure in proportion in various poses and learn techniques for figures in motion to enhance the garments you design. You will receive a drawing tool and grid to assist and will be pleasantly suprised to see how competent you become even if you have previously found drawing difficult. You will learn to draw different categories and parts of the garment and practice fashion illustration techniques. You become confidently creative as you study and apply the principles and elements of design and learn to prepare your designs for production with technical drawing and specifications.

3 PATTERN CONSTRUCTION You will learn a simplified pattern construction method with the SITAM AB drafting tool and learn to take accurate body measurements to construct fitted pattern blocks for all types of garments and all types of figures in womens'wear, mens' wear and children's wear. You will be required to assemble many of the patterns so you fully understand the 3 dimensional nature of the human body. You will also learn how to create your own fashion styles with the help of a great number of representative garment styles with step by step pattern instruction as well as construct standardised patterns for short run production in graded sizes.

4. GARMENT ASSEMBLY You will learn to layout your pattern on the fabric and cut out and assemble the design and then assemble the toile.

These are LIFELONG learning skills with vaulable reference material which will never become outdated!! You will experience great satisfaction as you quickly learn these skills and begin to apply them immediately . You will become creatively confident as you progress through the course and make the clothes you have always dreamed about.
